New Version:
After pulling on my other glove, I slid my window open to the fire escape. Leaving through the window allowed me to sneak out without running into any of the people in the neighboring apartments. Or my landlord. Plus I could continue down the alley and avoid interaction even longer.
I stepped onto the fire escape, the red, rusted metal shuddering under my weight. Ever single, ever time that scared me. I glanced down through the little diamonds of the metal, down the three stories to the dumpsters in the alley. A fresh breeze funneled through the apartment building and the duplex next door which was only two floors. Backing up against the building, I took a running start and landed on the duplex’s roof. I did my best to try to land quietly, which I think I’m getting pretty good at.
(So far, at least.)
Old Version:
"Yo!" I yelled out.
"You're such a hood, Az!" My neighbor shoed me off his roof.
I snickered and landed onto the fire escape. I swung around, sliding down till I reached the damp cement in the alley way. The first time I had worked up the nerve to try that, I hadn't thought it all the way through and ended up tearing skin off my palms and landed on the dumpster. Since then, I had learned to wear my leather, fingerless gloves. Ah yes, good times.
Hoping to finish some more writing this weekend after schoolwork, I also have been feeling like drawing some characters out too though. ^^
